RM180-million worth of loans for the Indian business community recently announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is open for application from Thursday.
“A special secretariat has been set up for applicants of the loan, aimed in assisting the Indian community to uplift their socio-economic state on par with the transformation of Malaysia’s economy” said MIC President Datuk Seri G. Palanivel .
The secretariat, named Special Secretariat for Empowerment of Indian Entrepreneurs (SEED), will report directly to Palanivel, who is also the lead minister for the Indian Community ETP Unit.
“The loans will be disbursed through the Islamic units of 13 participating commercial banks. The public can approach the SEED secretariat for the application forms and assistance. Established companies can even apply directly to the participating banks.
“We are looking at funding existing Indian companies with good financial performance as well as fresh businesses. We have decided to put a maximum loan cap of RM5 million for each company,” he told reporters after chairing a consultation meeting with all parties pertaining to the Indian business loan, here.
